AGATHA CHRISTIE

Agatha Christie (Torquay, Devon, 1891 – Wallingford, Oxfordshire, 1976) schreef haar eerste boek in 1920: het eerste van 77 detective– of crime novels, veel romantische verhalen, veel korte verhalen en een aantal toneelstukken. Ondanks het feit dat ze weinig opleiding had genoten en niet uit een literair geïnteresseerde familie kwam, slaagde ze erin één van de beroemdste detectiveschrijvers van de twintigste eeuw te worden. Dat kwam deels door haar beroemde mysterie-toneelstuk ‘The Mouse Trap’ (dat jaren achtereen in Londen werd opgevoerd, het langslopende toneelstuk ooit), maar nog veel meer door de vele detectives die ze schreef met in de hoofdrol de slimme oude dame Miss Marple of de arrogante Belgische speurder Hercule Poirot.
