BETSY BYARS

Betsy Byars (Charlotte, North Carolina, 1928) is een Amerikaanse schrijfster van kinder- en jeugdboeken. Ze groeide op als Betsy Cromer in een goed gezin en ze ging Engels studeren. Ze trouwde met Edward Ford Byars, een medestudent die techniek studeerde. Later verhuisden ze naar de staat Illinois waar Betsy haar eerste kinderboeken schreef; het eerste boek kwam uit in 1962.
Ms Byars is – evenals haar man – piloot; ze wonen bij een landingsbaan in South Carolina.
Betsy Byars won heel veel onderscheidingen voor haar boeken en ze werd ooit tot de tien beste schrijvers van kinderboeken in de wereld gerekend.
Ms Byars overleed in 2020.
