Daniel Defoe

 

Daniel Defoe (Londen, ca.1660 – ca.1731) was een Engelse schrijver, één van de eerste romanschrijvers in de Engelse taal. Maar behalve romanschrijver was hij ook schrijver van krantenartikelen, pamfletten en essays. Verder was hij zakenman, handelaar en spion. Defoe wordt gezien als de Engelse bedenker van de roman. In totaal staan er meer dan 500 titels op zijn naam: boeken, pamfletten, artikelen, journalistieke stukken, beschouwingen over politiek, godsdienst, psychologie, normen en waarden, het bovennatuurlijke, het huwelijk, enzovoort, enzovoort.
