GAIL CARSON LEVINE

De Amerikaanse jeugdboekenschrijfster Gail Carson Levine (1947) werd bekend met haar eerste boek, Ella Echanted, tevens haar bekendste werk tot nu toe.
Ms Levine groeide op in New York City. Haar ouders en haar zus waren nogal creatief, een talent dat zij ook meekreeg. Al jong genoot ze van kinderboeken, later wilde ze actrice of schilder worden. Maar ze studeerde af in filosofie, ze trouwde en ging jaren als ambtenaar in New York werken.
In haar vrije tijd volgde ze een cursus schrijven. En zo begon haar schrijverscarrière – na veel afwijzingen en teleurstellingen. Haar eerste boek, Ella Enchanted, werd een enorm succes (en een populaire film). Vanaf dat moment schreef ze fantasy en sprookjes, vaak met een romantische ondertoon en vaak gebaseerd op een ouder, beroemd sprookje.
