ISAAC ASIMOV
Isaac Asimov was een Amerikaanse auteur die vooral beroemd werd vanwege zijn science fiction verhalen. Behalve schrijver was hij tevens professor in de biochemie aan Boston University. Zijn deskundigheid op het gebied van de exacte wetenschappen beïnvloedde zijn literaire oeuvre enorm: veel van zijn verhalen gingen over vernieuwingen op het gebied van wiskunde, scheikunde, natuurkunde en afgeleide wetenschappen zoals robotica.
Asimov schreef meer dan 500 boeken en verhalen en een kleine 100.000 brieven en briefkaarten.
Isaac Asimov wordt gezien als één van de grootste SF-schrijvers van de twintigste eeuw, samen met Arthur C. Clarke en Robert Heinlein.
Mr. Asimov werd in 1920 geboren in Petrovichi in Rusland. Zijn ouders (afkomstig uit een Russisch-Joodse molenaarsfamilie) en hij emigreerden – na de dood van alle vijftien broertjes en zusjes van Isaac – in 1923 naar de USA. Isaac sprak zelf nooit Russisch; thuis sprak hij Jiddisch. Hij studeerde scheikunde aan Columbia University in New York. Na zijn afstuderen ging hij werken aan Boston University, waar hij zijn verdere leven als biochemicus zou werken.
Al vanaf zijn kindertijd schreef hij veel: fictie en non-fictie, science fiction, maar ook fantasy en crime.
Isaac Asimov overleed in 1992 in New York City.
