Rachel Anderson (Hampton Court, Londen, 1943) is een Engelse schrijfster van kinder- en jeugdboeken (young adult novels). Ze heeft altijd veel met schrijven gehad: ze werkte lang als journalist (onder andere voor Engelse tijdschriften en voor de BBC) en haar moeder was ook schrijfster.
Al op jonge leeftijd verloor Ms Anderson haar vader; haar moeder schreef kinderverhalen om wat geld te verdienen voor haar en haar vijf kinderen en de jonge Rachel typte die verhalen uit. Later schreef ze haar eigen verhalen.
Na haar journalistieke werk ging ze zich volledig wijden aan het schrijven van jeugdboeken. Ze won een aantal belangrijke boekenprijzen. Behalve aan het schrijven van boeken heeft Ms Anderson veel tijd besteed aan kinderen die het niet zo goed hadden, zowel emotioneel als financieel.
