HARRY PATTERSON (aka JACK HIGGINS)
De Britse thrillerschrijver Jack Higgins (pseudoniem van Henry Patterson) (1929-2022) werd in Newcastle geboren. Na de scheiding van zijn ouders ging hij met zijn moeder wonen in haar geboorteplaats Belfast, Northern Ireland. Daar leerde hij heel vroeg lezen – maar hij raakte ook bekend met de gewelddadigheden van de Noord-Ierse burgeroorlog. Later verhuisde het gezin naar Leeds.
Jack Higgins zat tijdens zijn militaire diensttijd in Duitsland, op de grens met het voormalige Oost-Duitsland (DDR). Hij studeerde sociologie en werd docent aan een hogeschool in Leeds.
Later begon hij thrillers te schrijven, eerst onder verschillende pseudoniemen, totdat hij de naam ‘Jack Higgins’ definitief koos. Met zijn 36e (!) roman, The Eagle Has Landed werd hij wereldberoemd.
