Garry Disher (1949, Burra) groeide op op de boerderij van zijn ouders in Zuid-Australië. Zijn vader hield daar schapen hij verbouwde tarwe. Na een uitgebreide studie aan de universiteiten van Melbourne en Adelaide reisde Mr Disher rond in Europa en Afrika.
Nadat hij in Californië een prijs kreeg voor zijn schrijfactiviteiten, besloot hij full time schrijver te worden. Sinds 1988 is hij beroepsauteur. Hij heeft tientallen boeken op zijn naam staan, zowel fictie als non-fictie, zowel jeugdliteratuur als romans voor volwassenen.
